The Block Uncarved

As a classroom teacher, Nancye Blair Black envisioned a dignity-driven educational system that empowered every teacher and student to succeed. Seeing this vision start to come to life in her own classroom, she began to share ideas and strategies with other educators through her blog, and later through consulting, keynotes, articles, and books. In 2012, she shifted her focus to support the greater educational community through consulting services. Through conference presentations, publications, online and face-to-face professional development offerings, and coaching for school and district teams, her work has now reached tens of thousands of educators around the world.

What is your business? The Block Uncarved is an educational consulting firm specializing in innovative instructional design, transformative professional development, and the meaningful integration of educational technologies.

Who are your clients? We serve companies, non-profit organizations, conferences, and school districts who are looking for custom solutions around curriculum design, adult learning, or integrating educational technologies.

What are some business wins? I’m extremely grateful to have worked on some amazing projects over the last eight years. Right now, I’m excited to be designing an international certification course for educational technology and to be increasing equitable access to computer science (CS) education through the creation of a highly-scaffolded middle school curriculum and a dynamic approach to CS professional development.

What would you like to see in Lakeland? I would like to see every Lakelander contributing to the betterment of the city in some way. Whether it’s by helping a neighbor after a hurricane, volunteering for a non-profit, or getting involved in local political efforts, we all have something worth sharing. When we work together, our potential is limitless.

How has Catapult helped you? Catapult serves many of the most brilliant thinkers, designers, and entrepreneurs in Lakeland. Working alongside them is inspirational and pushes me every day to be a better business owner and human.

Why Lakeland? Lakleand has been my home for the last 25 years. I love that Lakeland is small enough to know someone everywhere you go and big enough that there is always something new to do or someone new to meet.

What is your Secret Sauce? Releasing expectations about how things will turn out and instead embracing the unexpected. Doors are always opening if you take the time to step back and look for them. | 863.940.9660
