What is a business incubator?

A business incubator is an organization designed to accelerate the growth and success of entrepreneurial companies through an array of business support resources and services that could include physical space, capital, coaching, common services, and networking connections.

What is the process to join the Catapult Makerspace Incubator?

1. Fill out this form to get the conversation started
2. Receive an invitation to tour
3. Complete an application for membership
4. Participate in an incubator interview
5. Fill out necessary safety and business paperwork

What is prohibited in the Makerspace?

Safety is the top priority in the Catapult Makerspace. To ensure a safe work environment for all members, the following are not permitted under any circumstances:

  • Production of firearms and firearm accessories
  • Wet-lab work
  • Chemical application processes including sprayable paints
What if I want something made, but I don’t want to make it myself?

Catapult members work in a variety of fields. If you have a project, Catapult staff can facilitate a connection with members in the following fields:

  • General wood working
  • Product design
  • Prototyping
  • 3D printing services
  • Apparel customization

How does pricing and billing work?

The Catapult Makerspace Incubator has a base rate of $170 / member. Additional fees can include:

Equipment – some pieces of equipment have an hourly fee associated to help offset variable costs such as electricity and machine maintenance.

Storage – ranging in size from single shelves to pallet bays and 100sqft micro-factories, members are charged a monthly fee for additional storage.

Joining Fee – A $65.00 joining fee per business is applied on the day of orientation.

Can hobbyists join the Catapult Makerspace?

The short answer is “maybe”. As a non-profit, Catapult is funded to help businesses start and scale, and we do this though our different incubators. Therefore, most resources are focused on subsidizing the businesses that want to start and scale businesses.

However, we do offer a limited number of Shared Space Memberships for people who do not need incubator programming, but that still want to be a part of an entrepreneurial community. These memberships do not include all of the amenities and resources and are not as subsidized as the Incubator Membership.

Shared Space memberships start at $220/mo for coworking.

I am a maker that is interested in a job. Can the Catapult Makerspace staff help with that?

There are typically Catapult members that are hiring for their businesses as they scale their operations. If you are interested in working for one of them, email your resume to Brett Chamberlain (brett@catapultlakeland.com), and he will connect you to potential opportunities if anything is available.

Do you have an additional question that isn’t addressed here?

Fill out this form and select “I have a general question.” Our team will reach out to you with more information.
