Buzz Garlock oversees Fifth Third’s Higher Education, Private Education, Government and Institutional efforts for the Northern and Central areas of the State of Florida. This area includes cities such as Tampa, Lakeland, Orlando, Daytona, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and the Pan Handle. The group specializes in Colleges and Universities, Community Colleges, Private Education K-12, Charter Schools and For Profit Schools, Governments, Municipalities and large Not-For-Profit Institutions. He joined Fifth Third Bank in October 2005, with over 25 years of banking experience all within commercial, corporate, public and finance.
Prior to joining Fifth Third, Buzz managed corporate and commercial banking groups in Pinellas County, Orlando, and Tampa for larger regional banks.
Buzz has assisted his clients in improving their capital structures through direct debt, off balance sheet structures, and accessing the bond capital markets. Operationally, he has assisted his clients by improving their use of cash and finding ways to optimize their investment strategies. He works with a consultative approach focusing on client strategies, goals and objectives. He has worked chiefly with clients in the Northeast & Southeast, yet has focused predominantly on the major metropolitan areas in Florida during the last 25 years. He has originated over $1.5 billion in debt within Florida.
Buzz remains involved within the community through several Boards. He has served as Committee Co-chair for the Mid-Florida Economic Development Commission and Investor Relations Committee. He also served on the Board of Directors Rebuilding Together, a not for profit organization serving the needs of children and families. He is a graduate of Leadership Tampa, Leadership St. Petersburg, and Leadership Orlando.
Buzz earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance from Niagara University and an MBA from Canisus College.
