The King’s Church

Ever since moving to Lakeland as a teenager, Ian has considered Lakeland home. After graduating from Florida State University in 2013, he returned to teach high school Bible at Lakeland Christian School. During this transition, he and his wife Molly began to dream about what it would look like to plant a church in Lakeland. Through the Acts 29 church planting network, Ian became connected with Aletheia Church in Tampa and has served as one of their pastors for the past three years. During this time, Ian and his family have been slowly building a team and strategically planning the mission, vision, and core values of the new church plant. For the past 5 years, The King’s Church team has grown to around 35 adults and will officially launch in September of 2018, holding Sunday morning services at Dixieland Elementary School. Ian will continue teaching at LCS next year while also serving as the lead pastor of The King’s Church. Ian and Molly have been married since 2013 and have a son named Caleb.

What is your business? We are a new church plant launching in September of 2018. Our mission is to see a greater worship of Jesus through declaring and displaying the gospel.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? Around 80% of Lakeland’s population does not belong to a church, so I’ve had a growing burden to create an environment and a community where people can explore who Jesus is and what the gospel means for our lives.

What are some business wins? Our team is passionate about caring for orphans through foster care + adoption. A number of families in our launch team are actively involved in caring for orphans in these ways. We want to continue to see orphaned children, both locally and globally, be welcomed into homes where they will be loved and cared for.

How has Catapult helped you? Catapult is an incredible space to work + collaborate with others. Since we are a mobile church, it’s helpful to have a consistent place to set up shop.

What are your short-term goals? Our goals are to begin weekly services in September at Dixieland Elementary School, serve and love the Dixieland neighborhood, and start meaningful conversations about Jesus with those in our community.

Why Lakeland? Lakeland is home! My family and I love it here, have created lasting, meaningful relationships, and have deep roots in the community. We have no plans to be anywhere else.

What is your Secret Sauce? Finding beauty in the ordinary, fighting to show up, and faithfully pursuing meaningful conversations.
