Rebeccah Lipson

Rebeccah and her mother started Strings In Need in March of 2015 after learning about a student that had financial access to anything he wanted, including a $20,000 violin. It was in the moment she realized that there are many students who cannot afford even the least expensive instruments, let alone music lessons. Through Strings in Need, Rebeccah has figured out a way to bridge that gap and is dedicated to providing students from all cultural and economic backgrounds with expert training in the art of strings.

What is your business? A non-profit business that uses a sliding scale fee structure so that all students have access to quality instruments and expert instruction.

Who do you teach? We teach group classes at the Boys & Girls Club and Golden Gate Preparatory Academy as well as private lessons at our temporary studio.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? Ever since I was a toddler, my family was involved with helping the less fortunate. When I knew I wanted to start S.I.N., I had no hesitation. Giving back means everything to me.

Something interesting? We didn’t plan for our business initials to spell out “sin” but it’s kind of funny!

Business wins? We went from 7 students to 39 students in one year!

Goal? To open a 12 room studio, with a black box theatre and accommodations for students with many abilities, in downtown Lakeland in the 2017/2018 school year. We are also currently working on our March 9th fundraiser: ”Joining Forces to Bridge the Gap.”

Why Lakeland? I want to leave a lasting impression on Lakeland and the Polk County community.

Favorite thing to do here? Seeing the Imperial Symphony Orchestra

What would you like to see here? A music studio + performance venue

How has Catapult helped you? Getting the word out about who we are and giving us a place to call our home office.

Secret Sauce? Having dedicated team members and offering affordable lessons for anyone.
