A Micro-Grant Recipient: New Sound Acoustics

Noel Rosa is an award-winning, touring singer-songwriter who has been writing and performing for decades. He suffered a severe back injury, which sidelined his career and limited the kinds of guitars that he could play. After an extensive hunt for the perfect, lightweight, thin-body acoustic guitar, Noel turned to making his own. He loved his creation and took it on tour with him when he was cleared to perform again. Fellow musicians took notice and the orders came pouring in. Noel began fulfilling custom orders and decided to develop his ideal, thin-body acoustic guitar, and the NRS was born. Since it’s inception, the NRS guitar has slowly but surely been working it’s way up in the ranks to establish itself as an industry front-runner for thin-body acoustic guitars.

What is your business? I run a small startup guitar company that focuses on crafting high-quality, thin-body acoustic guitars.

How has receiving a micro-grant from Catapult’s funding program changed your business? Catapult has been a blessing to help small startups like me get on their feet. With the grant I received, I was able to purchase machinery that was desperately needed to launch New Sound Acoustics. They have also offered me valuable advice regarding the operation of my business, which has been immensely helpful.

What was the hardest part of starting your business? I had a hard time finding funding for my business because I could not get a loan from a bank. This is why I’m so thankful for Catapult. They stepped in and helped me launch my small business when I couldn’t find help elsewhere.

What are some goals for your business? My primary goal is to beat the cancer I’ve been fighting for over a year, which has made it difficult to run and maintain my business. I want to give my company everything so I can establish New Sound Acoustics as a strong, quality brand.

Why Lakeland? Lakeland is a lovely city that feels big and small at the same time. The people here genuinely care for each other and want the best for each other, and it’s apparent everywhere you go. It was brave and innovative to launch an incredible concept like Catapult to help grow small businesses and strengthen “the backbone of America.”

What is your Secret Sauce? Listening. To create an exceptional product, you must know what your customer is looking for. I’ve learned that promise + successful delivery = good reputation. I listen to what they want and work to give them more than what they are expecting.
