When Jessica was young, she spent hours on Microsoft Paint, Word Art, and Paintshop Pro polishing a skill that would turn into a passion. In middle school, she discovered MySpace and learned basic HTML code to accompany her graphic design proficiencies and personalize her profile. Jessica’s custom Myspace layouts became her first business, accepting orders online for her work. Through high school, graphic design remained a hobby, but Jessica soon bridged the gap between her passion and her career. She was lucky enough to define her professional trajectory at a young age and found experience in print shops and advertising agencies. Her effectiveness as a leader, teacher, and artist seamlessly flowed into entrepreneurship, so she began her own design company, Luhv’lee Design.
What is your business? I provide graphic design and print services for small businesses.
Who are your clients? I work mostly with women who own a small business or nonprofit organization.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? I was inspired to start my own business when I discovered a designer “Elle and Company” and following my first design internship with Nice Branding. Both are successful design agencies owned by women.
What are your short-term goals? I’m working to get legal contracts completed, business processes in place, and zero in on services I will offer.
What are some business wins? I have been designing in Lakeland for a long time and the experience has paid off. Most of my business comes from word of mouth. So, experience and consistency are my current business wins.
How has Catapult helped you? I’ve made some awesome connections and it gives me an office space outside of my home.
Why Lakeland? I grew up in Lakeland and I love it! Our community is so creative, and that creativity is on display all over our town. There is also a sense of pride Lakelanders carry for their city and the local small businesses.
What is your Secret Sauce? Strategy. There are a ton of graphic designers, but designing with strategy is what sets me apart. Some designers design to make things pretty. Other designers design to make pretty things that work.
