On Point Marketing, Inc.

Jim and his wife, Dawn, moved from New Jersey to Lakeland in the early 90’s, where he started as an art director for a weekly publication. Jim steadily moved up in ranks, learning every position in the organization until he was VP of Sales and Marketing. But after 35 years at this company, he lost his job. Over the next few months, many more talented people lost their jobs, which motivated Jim to find a solution. With the newly available talent coming on as his sales team, Jim made the not-so-hard decision to begin On Point Marketing, Inc.

What is your business? We are a marketing company with an emphasis on the automotive industry. With a commitment to our advertiser’s success, we determine what will generate response and deliver the highest return on investment.

Who are your clients? We bring buyers and sellers together through publications, direct mail and digital assets, so essentially anyone looking to buy or sell their next vehicle is our customer.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? Necessity. Up until roughly a year before my layoff, I thought I would retire from that position. Poor decisions by ownership destroyed that. I did not want to work for someone else and leave my future in their hands any longer, so I thought, “Why not build something for myself?”

What are your short-term goals? I want our team under one roof. Looking forward to a small office shortly after the first of the year!

Why Lakeland? This is a great little city that I have been proud to call home. It has a wonderful sense of community and has been a great place to raise our family. For business, it’s central location is key to expansion.

What do you love to do in Lakeland? Walk downtown and around the lakes with my wife, attend the Downtown Lakeland Farmers Market on Saturdays, and enjoy the great restaurants.

How has Catapult helped you? It is a great work environment and I look forward to taking advantage of the conference rooms and seminars. Before starting my business, I went through the two-day Boot Camp course which was the kick-start I needed and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.

Secret Sauce? Our Team. In this world of online marketing, social media blitzing and website dazzle, we tend to get away from the personal touch. People buy from people. We need to remember that.
