Gina has always possessed a special love for animals, spending many of her days at zoos and aquariums while growing up. When an opportunity arose to care for a friend’s pet while they were away on vacation, she gladly accepted and continued to serve as that dog’s sitter for the following 10 years. In the meantime, Gina gradually picked up more clients which sparked her idea for a career in pet sitting. During Christmas-time in 2012, she posted her services on Facebook and found success all the way into February. She was receiving phone call after phone call to care for pets strictly from word of mouth. By March, she had quit her corporate job to pursue The Pet Nanny full-time and has been booked with business ever since.
What is your business? The Pet Nanny is a professional pet sitting and dog walking business.
Who are your clients? My clients are anyone who owns a pet of any kind. We are not breed-specific and even take care of farm animals.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? There was a demand for a loving, caring, professional pet sitter in Lakeland and I believed that I could meet that demand.
What are some business wins? A big win was receiving a call from the Ledger to be featured in an article for the “Women in Small Business Month” issue and I also received the Central Florida Score Success Winner award. In the end, it has been the trust from all the amazing, loving pet owners that has been the biggest win.
What are your favorite things to do in Lakeland? Just about anything going on downtown! The Saturday morning Downtown Farmers Market, restaurants like Posto9 and The Lakeland Loft, and First Fridays are among my favorites.
How has Catapult helped you? Catapult helped even before becoming a member. I fell in love with the mission from the first article I read about Catapult and I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. The community of like-minded people has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Secret Sauce? To be personal with clients, but especially with their pets. Many owners appreciate the attention I give and how I communicate on the pets’ terms, not mine. I apply this same standard to client communication: listen to their needs to understand how you can best serve them.
