Chris has been a disc jockey since high school– mixing, editing, and providing music for events. The first gig he landed, he brought his family’s Hewlett-Packard desktop computer and speakers from the living room for a school dance. By the end of the night, students were cheering his name. It was at this moment that Chris knew he had a gift he wanted to share with others. Since then, Chris has worked to perfect his craft. In 2009, he took a leap of faith and started his DJ service Graingertainment.
What is your business? Graingertainment is a full-time DJ service that proudly serves Central Florida and beyond. Our primary focus is on the music, but we are mindful not to overwhelm the event and to stay as complementary to the venue as possible at all times. It’s all about creating balance by catering to our clients, staying original, and maintaining an element of spontaneity.
Who are your clients? Our main clients are brides and grooms, but we also provide services for anyone looking to host birthday parties, corporate get-togethers, and a wide array of diverse events.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? I worked a nine-to-five job and knew immediately it was not for me. I also wanted to be able to spend more time with my family. Deciding to be an entrepreneur has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Why Lakeland? Lakeland has been home to me since 1989 and it is the perfect location for our company. It’s centrally located between Tampa and Orlando and has a community unlike any other I’ve experienced.
Something interesting about your business? For my first gig, I was paid in gift cards to a chain restaurant. That’s the epitome of starting from the bottom!
How has Catapult helped you? Catapult has provided a network of supportive, creative, and driven entrepreneurs. It has been an amazing community to be a part of.
Secret Sauce? Thousand Island dressing is the key.
