TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.

Hello, I am Carol Stanley Founder of Liamuiga Tinctures and Teas. My family emigrated from St. Kitts in the West Indies over thirty years ago, bringing with us treasured fusion recipes that highlight our Afro-Caribbean, East Asian and European cultures. Our hobbies include travel, food (creating and devouring it), K-dramas, patio gardening and spending time with our amazing dog, Barry Allen. We came to Lakeland to join the Catapult incubator Kitchen. We have stayed in Lakeland because of the incredible people that we have been fortunate to meet.

WHAT’S YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH?

Have you ever had tea the Liamuiga way? Having tea, the Liamuiga way means that you will enjoy products that are made with uniquely bold fusion recipes, natural, transparent in taste and ingredients, with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

Growing up on an island meant developing a deep understanding of the properties of all that we consumed, medications were not easily available, affordable or accessible. Therefore, the supplemental remedies in the form of teas, tinctures and salves that were created by my grandparents are the backbone to the products and experiences found in this company.
This holistic approach to health and wellness became more evident when I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. After spending over twenty years as a nurse, the clinical and cultural approach to my recovery required not only my perspective as a healthcare professional, but also my cultural heritage to mitigate my new state of health and wellness. This personal collaborative approach has inspired me to share with my community our natural, teas, tinctures and foods that showcase a purposeful driven goal of mindfulness in eating.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

This will be the hardest work that you will ever do. Do not be afraid to fail. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try and try again.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS IN LAKELAND?

I love the nurturing spirit and openness of Lakeland and its residents. I can recall our very first week at the Lakeland Downtown Farmers Market, everyone was so encouraging and supportive of our endeavor. It made us realize that we had products that were valued in our community.

WHAT IS THE SIGNATURE DISH ON YOUR MENU?

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A BUSINESS OWNER?

Having repeat customers report how much they love our products and the benefits that they are deriving from them

WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS? SHARE WITH US ABOUT THE GOALS THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY CHASING.

Currently we are building our online store, creating a new product line of tea rubs, conceptualizing and creating our “High Tea On Low Time Tea boxes” and expanding our line of tincture mixes and teas.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AROUND FOOD?

On Sunday morning our family would gather around what was a typical Kittitian breakfast which consisted of; saltfish (salted cod fish) and eggplant, boiled eggs, porridge (oatmeal, semolina or cornmeal), butter bread ( a bread that was made with a brightly orange colored margarine), fried plantains and bush tea or cocoa tea. I could endure the hardships of the week knowing that on Sunday morning we would feast. I have carried on this tradition with my children, and I love it when they ask on Sunday morning if we are having Saltfish.

WHO IS YOUR CULINARY HERO?

My high school home economics teacher Agnes Morton. She taught me so many things, introduced me to many different cuisines and encouraged my love of baking.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE CULINARY DESTINATION?

Borough Market London, England. There you can find so many cuisines from around the world. It’s simply awesome!
