Open Spot

Wesley and Jestin are both students at Florida Polytechnic University. As students, they recognized the struggle of finding a parking space at college campuses, restaurants, department stores, downtown, and a multitude of other places. They sought out to solve this problem with a cell phone application. Their pre-launch company provides the opportunity for users who currently occupy a parking space to auction off their spot via a mini-bid system to those seeking a place to park their vehicle.

What is your business? Open Spot is a marketplace mobile application that connects current drivers who are occupying parking spots to drivers seeking parking spots through a mini-bid system that reserves the space following the transaction.

Who are your clients? As a pre-launch company, our potential clients  include anyone with a consumer vehicle.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? For us, taking a risk on the potential of our own ideas and watching them go from paper to a tangible end result is very fulfilling. We take mistakes as opportunities to learn rather than setbacks and constantly move forward with new ideas.

What are some business wins? Some business wins for us include both the office space we work out of at Catapult, thanks to Florida Polytechnic University, and the encouraging conversations we have with other Lakelanders who are inquisitive and genuinely interested in seeing our idea come to life.

What are your short-term goals? Our primary goal for the near future is to develop our prototype by March and begin testing of the application by April of this year.

How has Catapult helped you? Catapult has provided a space for us to interact with established, like-minded, creative individuals who share their ideas and give us advice on our company. It is a unique space with great opportunities and we are excited for what is in store.

Why Lakeland? As students of Florida Polytechnic, we have witnessed the positive development of Lakeland over the last few years. The growth of the innovative and community-oriented culture of this city has encouraged us to pursue our ideas here.

What is your Secret Sauce? Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. -Matthew 6:33
