Susan has always loved to bake. Most of what she knows is self-taught, but over the years she has had the opportunity to work with professional pastry chefs to fine-tune her culinary skills. Susan takes great pride in the details of her creations and enjoys sculpting big, intricately designed cakes that allow her to be creative. This passion for detail-oriented sweets has punched her a ticket to “America’s Cake Fair” this Fall, where she will compete in a baking contest and learn even more about what she loves to do. On a typical weekend, you can find Susan at the local markets selling yummy treats, like her Paine Au Nutella.
What is your business?
Who are your clients? Anyone who enjoys delicious treats! I sell my baked goods at the Lakeland Farmers Curb Market on Saturdays, so I am frequently visited by friends and people who follow a gluten-free diet or have allergy restrictions.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? Owning my own business always appealed to me because that meant doing what I love to do and not what I have to do.
Why Lakeland? I didn’t know I would return to Lakeland, but I believe nothing happens by mistake. I’ve planted deep roots here and I want to do what I can to make the Lakeland community a better place and enhance the lives of others.
How has Catapult helped you? The biggest help has come via Boot Camp and the education at Catapult. It has helped me learn the business side of my company and given me tools to point me in the right direction. I love the fact that I have a community that supports me and gives me both counsel and a push when I need it.
Secret Sauce? Find something that you love to do and things holding you back will dissolve.
