Photography has been a life-long passion for Jordan, stemming from her mother’s photography books and watching her work in the darkroom. Jordan graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Studio Art, then started her own photography business in 2008. She loves telling stories visually throughout the world, traveling and connecting with others on location. Jordan believes that capturing real moments is better than recreating poses.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit (yes, I was the one with the lemonade stand on my street) and after college, I quickly realized that I could only be happy if I could be my own boss and make my own schedule.
Goals: To continue to narrow my focus, become a leader in my industry, and give back to my community.
Hardest thing about starting your business? Quitting my safe job and going all in. It’s hard putting yourself out there.
Three wishes: Have an office employee, shoot a bridal gown campaign, and have a few more destination weddings on the books.
Why Lakeland? I love the entrepreneurial spirit that has risen up in the past few years and the community support is incredible; I feel like there are so many people cheering me on.
What is Lakeland missing? Our artist and cultural community could be expanded (great first steps in this direction with Mass Market!). Practically, I’d also love to see a community garden and more of a global mind set.
Favorite things to do in Lakeland? Walk around the lakes with my daughter, visit local shops and restaurants, and attend community events like the Downtown Farmers Market.
How has Catapult helped you? It’s given me space to meet clients, wonderful workshops to attend, and people to network with. Beyond that, I think it inspires confidence in all of us that there are people willing to invest in what we are doing.
Secret Sauce? Working for yourself can seem like you’re never “off the clock.” Give yourself office hours and say no to e-mail or phone calls when it’s past your closing time. This is necessary for a balanced life.
