Brian became hooked on playing music after his parents bought him a harmonica from Cracker Barrel. In middle school, he started playing guitar and cello, then attended a magnet high school for music, and finally pursued a bachelor’s degree in cello performance and jazz guitar. Brian performs for different events, concerts, artists and tours and is also a songwriter pitching for film, TV, radio, contemporary county, pop, and folk.
What is your business? I perform, write, record, arrange, mix, and edit music for a myriad of mediums and markets.
Who are your clients? One day, I could be meeting with a bride about her wedding processional, then jumping on Skype with a co-writer in LA to write a pop song for Disney Radio or MusicBed.com. I also teach guitar lessons, perform at concerts and plays; my clients are anyone who needs music for anything at any time!
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? I always knew that I wanted to be a musician and it didn’t take me long to realize that in this industry, you have to invent your own way to make a living.
Something interesting? Most people don’t realize that the songs they hear on the radio are rarely written by the artist performing them. They’re typically written by everyday people like me–it’s as if songwriters have this big secret that no one knows about! I love that part of my job.
Business Wins? I. Get. Paid. To. Play. Guitar. #winning
Why Lakeland? I fell in love with the charm the city offers. Our city officials and leaders really listen to the citizens, so I have the chance to have a hand in how things are shaped. You can’t find that in a big city.
Favorite things to do in Lakeland? My wife, Holly and I love to bike to Lakeland Brewery and 801 E. Main and I love to golf at Cleveland Heights Golf Course.
Things you’d like to see in Lakeland? More venues for original music!
How has Catapult helped you? Having a professional place to meet with clients, legitimizing my business presence, and gaining support from the community of other entrepreneurs.
Secret Sauce? Your integrity is your brand. If you can’t follow through, you aren’t hired.
